Mohanji

To describe Mohanji without reducing him to any of the "frames" known to the human mind is a real challenge. He cannot be framed easily because he walks a path that he terms as the Pathless Path—of non-conformity, with neither bounds nor rituals, and with the sole aim of liberation by lifting the seeker’s consciousness. Mohanji is multidimensional. Being in the physical form at present, Mohanji is performing his duties as a son, husband, father, brother and Executive Manager. However, despite all these duties, he manages to deliver life-transforming, authentic experiences to all those who connect with him.

This short biography of Mohanji is a collaboration of many authors from different countries, different walks of life and at different levels of their own spiritual evolution. It is written as a compilation of perceptions of different people who have been ‘eligible’ enough to understand and experience Mohanji over the years. Also included are quotes by Mohanji himself, made in different contexts and situations, to help the reader ‘feel’ him better.

Perceptions of seekers

  • His existence is completely purpose bound. He is a Siddha in an ordinary human form.

  • Mohanji is a Master who constantly makes us aware that “Spiritual Master is a principle, not the body”. One may never understand him fully if one only looks at or gets attached to Mohanji’s form or physical frame. To understand him and feel his presence, one has to tap into his consciousness through his eyes. How true it is when Mohanji says “Marry the consciousness, which is permanent and unshakeable. Never marry any Guru”. Just reading his words is not enough. One has to live his teachings with constant awareness, on a daily basis.

  • Mohanji is completely selfless. He operates from a very high, expanded consciousness, while at the same time balancing that with all the rules and limitations of the body’s physical form, the business world he works in and other societal constraints. Due to his simple, accessible, humble, unassuming, down to earth and modest nature, the higher qualities of his existence can be recognized only by those who have the subtlety to perceive them.

  • The plane in which Mohanji operates and the magnanimity of his operations is difficult to explain. What he has to offer can only be experienced according to one’s connectivity and receptivity with him.

  • Mohanji expresses many Masters, and many Masters express through him. He always says that “in terms of consciousness, they are all One”.

  • Mohanji’s eyes are the gateway to his consciousness. All that is required is to connect with his eyes for a few minutes daily, with full faith and deep surrender, and just be receptive. Mohanji’s grace flows and one can experience it. It does not matter where a person is on this Earth. Miracles follow. Answers happen. Calamities dissolve. Cures happen.

  • His grace is to be experienced.

  • What impressed me the most was an unusually strong PRESENCE within him, a piercing sparkle in his eyes which reaches the soul instantly, followed by his effort to downplay and conceal it all, remaining unassuming, easily approachable and one amongst the many. However, the richness of his inner world and purity of his heart is easily recognizable to those who have "the eyes to see", who are sensitive enough to perceive the subtle.

  • Mohanji operates from the "being level". Love continuously expresses itself through him in various ways: through the wonderful cleansing meditations that he conducts, in connection with the Masters; through his beautiful writings, "downloaded" straight from the higher realms; through distant or direct healings that he performs whenever required; through answering people's endless queries, which he does with utmost love and patience, free of cost and any expectation.

  • He is a role model. He combines the two worlds of ‘beingness’ and ‘doingness’ very efficiently. This is possible because Universe always gives us abundant energy once service to others and expression of love becomes one's priority and this is true in Mohanji’s case.

Mohanji - Born smiling

As his mother describes, Mohanji was ‘born smiling’ on 23 February 1965. On the relevance of this, Mohanji once stated "We are simple and pure souls experiencing the terrestrial existence. This existence is temporary. There is a definite duration, parallel to time, with each birth. Thus, once upon a time, not so long ago, I was also a disembodied soul. I had my relevant agenda which provoked this birth on earth. I chose my parents of this life, place of birth, environment and the body-mind-intellect apparatus to carry out the agenda that I came here for. Perhaps I refused to cry because this birth was chosen, this body was chosen, the parents were chosen and landing on earth perhaps did not give me the expected shock after all! So what is there to cry about?"

Initial life

His initial life was full of trials and troubles. First of all, there was no aim. At first it was experimentation on the physical aspect of existence i.e. health, physical exercise, undertaking physically challenging tasks such as boxing, karate, mountaineering, long distance cycling etc. Then it became the emotional aspect – poetry, drama etc. Later came the phase of his intellectual experimentation – books, psychology, new age cinema etc. But he was never a “book-a-holic”. He always preferred to experience directly rather than read and understand. He has always been experience-oriented. He often says “Learning happens with experience. One’s own experience is the greatest teacher. Nothing can ever substitute its effect”.

Middle life: The Internal Shift

Mohanji got married to Saritha in September 1992. Their daughter Ammu came into their life on November 9th, 1995. She was actually named Sreedevi, based on Mohanji’s mother’s first name, which is customary. Ammu was her nickname. Ammu passed away on August 23rd 2000, in a road accident. Mohanji says “Within that time, she taught me many things. First of all, she made me experience what it feels like to be a father. She gave me immense love and affection. Often even scolded me or chided me like an elder. Her nature was that of love. She loved every creature, every person. She made me aware of the possibility of deeper love, beyond all man-made barriers. Her love for all beings was well reflected in the emotion that brought hundreds of people to her funeral. So many people of various age groups came to pay respects to a four year old child!!! She was a divine soul. No doubt. Needless to say, I was totally empty and devastated, when she left us so abruptly. In fact all of us were completely shattered”.

After Ammu left in the year 2000, Mohanji had a series of encounters with compulsive destiny. He separated from his wife; his belongings got stolen; he lost his earnings and investments; eventually he also lost his job. He was literally stranded, with family, money, property and job all gone. Totally naked and alone in a wild and ruthless world of opportunities, a shift happened in him. All the agony and suffering reflected on his physical body in the form of kidney stones and skin rashes with often unbearable burning sensations – life became a living hell. However, from the higher perspective, things looked completely different. His isolation, agony, pain and suffering eventually lead him into a deep inner exploration and genuine search of the very meaning and purpose of life. “One by one, God removed everything that I was probably attached to, and placed me firmly on the path of spiritual evolution. We must lose a lot to gain somewhat.”

The inner shift happened. He soon started receiving guidance from Shirdi Sai Baba, Mahavatar Babaji, Sathya Sai Baba, and several other Masters, some living in the body, some operating from other planes of existence. He made the Himalayas his second home, and found solace in the wisdom and unconditional love of the Masters. Slowly, the inner channels opened up fully and continuous telepathic communication with the Masters became his inner and outer reality. Getting to ‘know’ and sometimes ‘feel’ Shirdi Sai Baba, Parthi Sai Baba, Mahavatar Babaji, Akkalkot Maharaj, Ramana Maharshi, Bhagwan Nithyananda (Bade Baba), Mata Amrithananda Mayi and many other saints influenced his life. The book ‘Autobiography of a Yogi’ by Paramhansa Yogananda changed him thoroughly – ever since his initial reading of it in the mid 1990s. Meeting Vanamali Mataji in the year 2000 (her accepting him as her spiritual son and of course treating him so ever since) was another blessing. Rishikesh, Tapovan, Vasishta cave and most importantly, Mother Ganga; Mohanji floated in spirituality. Many saints contributed in building his awareness levels.

So, from a raw human to the level of a man who can survive the nothingness of consistent losses of everything he was deeply attached to, it was indeed a tall order. Mohanji survived. Communions started, physically and non-physically. The experiences that he most cherishes are: the physical encounter with Shirdi Sai Baba at Dwarakamayi and the non-physical communions with Mahavatar Babaji and Sathya Sai Baba.

In one of the communions with Babaji, he mentioned: “Siddhis (spiritual powers) are automatic, when man evolves spiritually. They are also traps that halt man’s spiritual progress”. This was a golden lesson for Mohanji. He became careful and never craved for siddhis, even though he was experiencing some of them at that juncture of his life.

Despite all this, Mohanji remains introverted and unassuming. It is so amusing to observe him arriving to a gathering organized in his honor wearing jeans and T-shirt, disappointing many who expect him to fit into their golden frames and glorified images. Images that the human mind simply loves to create so that it appears even more impossible to "the ordinary me" to reach the same state. Being in communion with the Masters and operating from the being level is not something the mind can easily grasp.

Deep pain and a drastic inner void created by Ammu’s absence brought about transformative experiences to Mohanji. Inspired by her purity and by the precious words of wisdom from a Himalayan saint “Serve the children of Mother Earth. You will have eternal peace”, he founded ‘Ammucare’ in 2003, a charity foundation that promotes unconditional service and care across all man-made barriers. He indeed had a lot of convincing to do to form a charity organization with no membership fees and no compulsory payments of any kind. Ammucare functions only from Mohanji’s personal income and voluntary contributions. Time is the witness that things just fall into place and funds for the charity activities come because it is the nature of love to attract and expand.

Present life

"You cannot hide for long. People will start recognizing you and who you are.”
(Quote from a Himalayan Swami/Saint about Mohanji)

From nowhere suddenly Biba (Bilijana Radonic) appeared in Mohanji's life in January 2007. Biba had been deeply connected with Yoga and Indian Spiritual practices. She was deeply influenced by 'Autobiography of a Yogi' when she was studying in USA. When she initialy met Mohanji, he was floating in his various spiritual experiences and experiments. He had become a thorough introvert. Actually in the year 2007, two meditations were given to Mohanji by higher Masters: The ‘Power of Purity’ first and then the ‘360 Degrees’ meditation. The former was meant to deeply purify the seeker while the latter was meant to center the seeker and connect to the realms of the Higher Masters. Biba insisted that the world should know and be benefited from these meditations. Mohanji believes Biba was chosen by the Higher Masters to pull him out of his introversion and help him make use of the knowledge and wisdom imparted by them so abundantly. Biba and Mohanji married in April 2010 and were blessed with a wonderful daughter Mila on 6 April 2011.

Professional life

Mohanji’s official and professional life has mainly been spent in the Gulf States of the Middle-east, where, for more than 20 years, he has been consistently proving his worth, time and time again, through various organizations. In all this there was only one thing which was constant: CHANGE. Locations changed, friends changed, environments changed, targets changed, tactics changed, body changed, mind changed, intellect changed, spirituality also changed. This awareness of the constancy of change itself provoked the biggest change in his outlook. He says "Everything is situational. I learned this. With the changes, many things dear to me also passed away or got dropped off. Even friends drop off when we change. New friends appear. In fact we can measure our evolution with the dropping away of our friends and the appearance of new and perhaps more relevant ones. Eventually, when we start to accept changes as an integral part of our existence, we start to look forward to them. The change itself becomes our inspiration. This happened to me as well”.

Mohanji never made decent savings as due to his leading a life of 'being' grounded in 'the present' and his firm conviction that those who approached him for help have been guided to him by the Divine. Some of those who came actually cheated him of huge amounts but Mohanji was never perturbed. He also never harboured any insecurities of future. He has been making substantial donations of whatever he had earned for genuine causes and motivating others to do so.

Mohanji on ‘Real success’

“Real success is when a man handles life successfully. No academic examination can replace the value of real experience, or in other words, academic education can never guarantee a successful life. It can only capture a man and his talents into a frame. Academic excellence ‘frames’ man and often makes him into a misfit for the real world in which adaptability of intelligence to a given situation beyond book knowledge is the criteria for survival. Being practical helps and being theoretical more or less ensures failure. Like everyone, life taught me many valuable lessons, which, of course, my education could never give. I could never tell what I would have learned from classes, because bunking classes and watching movies was more interesting to me during my student life.”

His curiosity

Mohanji has always been curious about the continuity of life or life after physical death. "Awareness of the matters that we might have possessed in our past lives might lead us to further exploration in this life. But, it never tells us what we knew in our past lives. We never get to access that data lying hidden in our sub-conscious mind. This is also because the equipment such as our mind and intellect are new, and they cannot understand or recognize the old data. The reasoning power of the new apparatus will dismiss any suggestion of a possible encounter of a similar matter or situation in a past life. So, our reasoning sometimes keeps us limited. It was true in my case. I explored my limitedness first and that was my early life experimentation on how far one can touch higher realities through our heavily limited body, mind and intellect. I had one advantage, just like many others, that I did not know what I was looking for. So, the search was for something that I did not know anything about. This was interesting. It certainly gave some kind of a freedom; A kind of a deep feeling of liberation. It also helped me to maintain the ‘aim’ in this life – as vague as possible. Trial and error of life took me through many treacherous alleys and gutters of life. My feet bled. Still, I kept walking. Some unseen purpose pushed me to continue the journey. There was deep darkness and danger on the path. There have been many falls too. In such wanderings, as I did not know where I was going and what the purpose of my journey was, it was impossible to use a map of any kind, or inform anyone about the trip and its purpose. I was definitely not afraid to walk alone”.

Black sheep of his family

Mohanji’s truthful take on his family: “I kept most of my relatives guessing. They eventually discarded me as ‘utterly useless’ or ‘good for nothing’. There’s an early memory of one of my aunts telling my father: “He is absolutely useless. This one will eventually become a liability to our family. He has absolutely no aim in life!”  She had obviously considered me as a total waste after I consistently scored poor marks in my class exams. When my class teacher asked, in a very junior class, what I would like to be when I grow up, I said: “I want to be alone.” She was furious and confused. I felt it was quite natural or reasonable, and did not know why somebody should be confused about it. I am sure that she never really understood the deeper meaning of that statement. My mother was also concerned about my wayward life. I did not fail in any class but also did not excel in any of the examinations. Only my grandfather, a reputed traditional astrologer, seemed unworried, addressing her motherly concerns saying, “In the years to come you will be proud of your son”. Thus, quite aimlessly my whole youth progressed. I became a postgraduate with reasonably good marks. Yet, I was clearly a black sheep in my family; a possibility in the wide world of mysteries.”

Mohanji on ‘Tragedies’

For Mohanji, life has no tragedies. There are only situations that invoke in us strange or unexpected feelings, effects and reactions and which are called happy or sad. For him from the larger perspective there are only experiences. Mohanji himself took many years of sundry experimentation to understand this simple truth, which was always waiting for his recognition.

Mohanji on ‘Comparisons with others’

Comparisons are useless according to Mohanji. There are not even two buffaloes alike. Each embodied being has a totally unique configuration. Who can totally understand another? It is impossible. He started realizing this truth, as he was evolving spiritually. He says “Each realization happened only at its appointed time. The same applies to the spiritual realm. We have to exhaust our physical, emotional, intellectual agendas before we could taste the nectar of our invisible spiritual agenda. To some, it does not happen in that sequence, if they have already exhausted it in their past lives. In some cases, depending on the evolutionary level of the person, one may stop at the realm of intellectual or even emotional exploration. There are many barriers before we could touch, feel or reach God: physical barrier, emotional barrier, intellectual barrier, ego barrier etc. The irony is that once we cross all these seemingly unending barriers, we realize what we have been searching for is that which always existed within us, throughout our lives. We are like a temple searching for its deity outside of itself, or someone searching for spectacles everywhere except on his nose. But, we get to understand this simple truth only when we cross all the barriers, just like certain knowledge is achieved only when a student reaches a certain level in his education. Knowledge is useful only at its appropriate time – same way, a professor does not give a lecture when he is visiting the grocery store. Knowledge can also become a burden. It can strengthen our ego as well. When physical existence becomes servant-hood to the Almighty, like in the case of the famous Bhakta Hanumanji, when emotion becomes devotion, when intellect and ego dissolve into awareness, it is then that a man touches the realm of God. Big time churning has to take place before all these attachments get dissolved. In that aspect, we have to die many times, in one lifetime or more, in order to be re-born with fresh awareness”.

Mohanji on ‘Dependency and progress’

Just like evolution of body, mind, intellect and ego are certain in human existence; Mohanji realized that dependency on anything blocks our progress. How can we bet on an ever-changing object? Later, much later, he understood how saints even shed their dependency on elements such as food, water and air, to the level of leaving their body at will. Man has infinite possibilities, if only we wake up from our slumber of ignorance!!! The best way to stop dreaming a bad dream is to wake up. Repetitive life is indeed a big bad dream. The only way to get out of this vicious cycle is to wake up, to become self-realized. Some people have understood the necessity of self-realization. Many are selling it for money – as if self-realization was a commodity!!! Having said that, Mohanji started experiencing that those who knew everything hardly spoke, and those who hardly know anything, always spoke well, even if they were partial truths. People, who like good sounds rather than pregnant silence, always choose those who speak well. He also started understanding the deep power of inner silence and that the path to reach there is deep inner purity. These were all self-realizations. Nobody ever taught him these truths; the truth of the power of purity and silence.

Best way to know Mohanji

The best way to get to know Mohanji and gain a deeper understanding about him and the spiritual path he represents is to read his blogs. From his own writings, to the QandA/Satsang transcriptions, to the experience sharing guest write-ups, it is here that we find the essence of it all. A wonderful collection of stories, teachings and spiritual profiles, saturated with meaning, carrying and spreading the essence of ancient, loving wisdom to the world. By coupling these readings with a practice of the two meditations, Power of Purity and 360 Degrees, one could open up abilities to experience new, expanded states of awareness.

Mohanji's quotes

In the meantime, here are a few quotes from Mohanji to help the reader catch the unique flavor of his being and expression-

"It has been a real privilege. This life, this existence. I have dared many storms and literally walked the path of thorns and scorns. The privilege has been that at one point I understood WHY it all happened. There has been absolute clarity".

"Nothing happens by accident. Everything has a deeper purpose, a deeper meaning. All the uncertainties, loss, thorns and scorns that I faced, were understood as karmic trashing, purification, and essentially, a preparation for something much higher, much more meaningful and divine".

"Each time something was taken away from me, it reinforced my spiritual well-being. Consistent removals, burning and churning, polished the sharp edges of my ego. No hatreds, no complaints. My visibility expanded with the shedding of every burden that I knowingly or unknowingly carried in life. These experiences, these understandings, while everything, even the very existence was falling apart around me, I consider as a great privilege. I am truly grateful to Divine for this grace, this privilege."

“I have no personal agendas. I stopped existing in this body a long time ago. My identities have changed time and again. I am just like water taking the shape and color of the available container. I am also like fire burning the chaff that blocks the karmic paths of people. I am like the shifting wind, belonging to everywhere and nowhere. I am like mother earth, brimming with compassion. I am the space-less space. I am only an instrument of the Almighty, just like many others. My aim is not to bind or blind people, but to liberate all those who are ready and receptive. I am glad if my existence helped a few people to get liberated. I am just doing my duty. Not conforming to any image is my way of staying liberated. All that matters is what you can do in the present. No image matters".

"Images are highly perishable. People are too eager to create frames and put one inside. People would like to look at two dimensions and ignore the third dimension of an individual which is in fact much more real".

People like finite objects while true personalities are infinite. Even our own life is infinite. Soul is infinite. Every moment, we are changing. Every cell is changing within a period of time. Body changes, mind changes, emotions change, situations change and beings die and take new births. Change is the truth of terrestrial existence. Amidst all these changes, what image can we keep? What for? Why don't we just let the changes take place and be an impartial witness to all those changes happening within and outside of us?

Images are often created out of insecurity. Some people are afraid to change their image because others might get disillusioned with them. Some are afraid of any changes, whatsoever. A life of conformity is very easy. A life of non-conformity and fearlessness is very difficult. Therefore - my image? Whatever you think I am, I am that. It does not matter what I actually am. I am a mirror, reflecting your mind. I never impose my image over you. For you, my image does not matter. Your image matters. This is where you have to start your journey.”

Expressions of Communions with the Masters

Being in communion with the Masters and operating from the being level is not something the mind can easily grasp. And yet, Mohanji explains the experiential side of it in a beautiful and straightforward manner-

“When self-realization happens, doing-ness gives way to being-ness and universal consciousness. All data are available in that. You no longer require terrestrial materials to satisfy your need for knowledge when you exist in knowledge and bliss itself. Acharyas (spiritual teachers) use the knowledge from books because they need it to train their students. Once or if they achieve the bliss state, the "Master-ship" stature, they also drop the accumulation of book knowledge and dissolve into being-ness. After enlightenment we often see drastic shifts in attitudes. We could see many Masters resorting to silence and non-doing. Many become hyper-active, in the non-karmic, self-less plane. Many behave like mad men. Many leave society and become recluses. It depends on the innate nature of the seeker as to how they will express themselves after enlightenment. Mostly only an enlightened person can recognize another. Others can only guess. Some pretend to be enlightened, but please understand that it is for their survival or their emotional need for recognition. Usually, with enlightenment, all the terrestrial needs also slowly vanish and the enlightened Master will operate from the Universal Love aspect. There will be nothing conditional in his approach. He will not need anything from anybody. He will become self-sufficient in his supreme being-ness, where everything is within his command. This is one visible sign of enlightenment.

Enlightenment means giving in to everything in perfect equanimity. Nothing affects you anymore. Giving up is renunciation. Dissolving is realization.

However, if you give up consciously, while the desire still exists in your sub-conscious; that will not work at all. You have to exhaust your desires and evolve further. Then it will stay. No desire can be suppressed and moved forward by the seeker. Circumstantial suppression is not elimination. The seeds are still there. The desire is still there. It will sprout when the right environment is created and when the time is right.

Furthermore, enlightenment means complete giving in to the rhythm of the universe. A total tuning in. Individual gratifications get converted into existence in a bliss state which means SELF- SUFFICIENCY (Self is sufficient). Externalization of the senses and mind will shift to internalization. The man achieves self-sufficiency within himself. Then it's not giving up, but dropping off. Automatically, all that is unwanted in one's sub-conscious gets burnt away or dropped off and that space becomes filled with the pure bliss of cosmic consciousness. You can also call it blissful emptiness or supreme awareness.

In short, we cannot give up anything, unless that space gets filled with something higher in nature. Karma cannot be deleted unless fully exhausted. It must wear off. Enlightened Masters can definitely dilute one's karmic trash. However, they usually let the disciple walk the path, experience and exhaust. Desires should be replaced with higher awareness. This means, when you got a bicycle, you lost the interest in your toys. When you got a motor cycle, you lost interest in your bicycle. Therefore, something higher replaces the seeming lower. In the case of spirituality, EXPERIENCE SHOULD REPLACE KNOWLEDGE. Then evolution happens. The higher the experiences, the more the lower will drop off. The need for doing anything ritualistically will drop off and existence in bliss will provide tremendous strength and equanimity. You will not be affected by any of the regular storms of life. You will stay afloat in all conditions and turbulence.

Wish You Happiness, Peace, Bliss and Fulfillment in your life. May you enjoy the presence of Lord the Master always with you. May you experience and express Unconditional Love. May you Remain Blessed always.

Love Always, Mohanji. ”

Finally,

Dear Mohanji,

We all are grateful to you for showing us the path and showering your grace on us. Our lives were incomplete, purposeless and meaningless without you.

We all surrender at your lotus feet, with faith, purity and this prayer of the Tradition -

“Oh Gurudeva, You are my guide, my pillar of strength. My existence depends on you. You should lift me up, guide me, and protect me from delusions, illusions, maya and ignorance. You are the giver of wisdom, you are eternal. Do not leave my hand, forgive my follies and cover me in your eternal love and compassion.

Gudeva, you are beyond gunas, time and space. Raise me up to your stature. Gurudeva, my existence depends on you. Without you, I do not exist. Bless me, bless my path, discover me from the ocean of existence, and guide me to complete liberation. I am only one of the mouths in the ocean of existence. If my existence helps other beings to see light, I am blessed. If my existence as a bubble dissolves without a purpose, please discover me again and make me useful.

My existence is surrendered to you, oh Gurudeva. I fully and completely surrender myself at your lotus feet”.

Mohanji, please accept our prayers.

With love,

BTW Family
